The custom activity is a tool designed for teachers who want to plan and assess activities in itslearning that are performed outside the context of the learning platform (for example, lab exercises and oral exams). It functions similarly to other activities, such as assignments and tests; and appears in task lists, lists of completed activities, and various other reports. However, it differs from regular activities in that students cannot submit or otherwise hand in their work via itslearning – the teacher is the only one who marks the assessments as done etc. (in a parallel to custom assessments in the grade book).
A custom activity can be assessed in either of two ways:
Track whether the activity has been completed
With tracking of completion, the teacher marks the assignment as done when the student has completed the work. The teacher can also decide whether students should be allowed to mark their tasks as complete themselves.
Assess the activity by using an assessment scale
This is the more common way of assessing an activity in itslearning. The teacher applies the assessment scale selected. Once an assessment has been set, the task is marked as complete automatically.
A custom activity can be used with learning objective assessment, either by means of assessment criteria or through an outcome status.
